The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship 2025 brought together the world's top hockey nations in a multi-venue tournament across Stockholm and Herning, delivering not just world-class sport, but a technical production of immense scale. Flyby was brought in by Creative Technology, a global leader in live event solutions, to document their full involvement across the tournament—from massive LED systems and venue-wide PA integration to cutting-edge ice projection and dynamic lighting installations. This marked our second major collaboration with Creative Technology in 2025, following the FIS Ski World Championship earlier this year. Once again, we were tasked with capturing the behind-the-scenes story of a highly complex production, showing the coordination, scale, and talent that make these operations possible.

Capturing a Large-Scale Technical Operation

Creative Technology’s work at the championship was extensive. Across multiple arenas, they supplied and operated:

  • Large-format LED walls for live replays, score updates, and branding

  • Fan Zone Sound systems tailored to the outdoor environment

  • Projection mapping directly onto the ice for opening ceremonies and intermission visuals

  • Lighting rigs synced with video playback and pre-game intros

Our assignment was to document the full lifecycle of this work—from the technical build and system tests through live match execution and post-event teardown.

In addition, we were tasked with capturing interviews with key Creative Technology leads, along with senior representatives from IIHF, including the federation’s president and marketing director.

The Production Approach

Given the tight event schedule, venue turnover, and high-level stakeholders involved, our approach prioritized precision, planning, and access. We worked closely with Creative Technology’s Swedish team to align filming windows with key milestones and identify when and where interviews could be conducted without interrupting operations.

Our delivery included:

  • Multiple short-form video cutdowns for Creative Technology’s Swedish marketing team

  • Over 100+ edited high-resolution photos, covering both technical builds and match-day atmospheres

  • A full aftermovie capturing the depth and scale of the production across both host countries

This aftermovie—filmed, directed, and edited by the same creative team behind our FIS Ski World Championship 2025 delivery—was once again built around strong visual storytelling and direct commentary from the people behind the scenes.

The Team

The Flyby production was led by the same trusted team from earlier this year:

  • Jasper Reijgers – Coordinator

  • Anders Fredriksson – On-site Coordinator

  • Joeri Spruijt – Director

  • Paulus Paulusma – Editor

  • Otto Barsten Johnsen – DOP & FPV Drone Operator

Together, we covered event activity across the Stockholm arena, ensuring every key moment was captured and delivered in line with our client’s expectations.

Closing Remarks

The IIHF World Championship 2025 was not just a global sporting event—it was a demonstration of the scale, complexity, and expertise required to execute large-scale live productions.

We are grateful to have once again collaborated with Creative Technology, and deeply appreciate the trust their team placed in us throughout this project. Their openness and professionalism made our job easier and allowed us to focus on capturing what truly mattered—the people, the systems, and the impact they created together.

Another strong collaboration, and one we’re proud to have been part of.
